Day 1 - Ulaanbaatar
Upon arrival in the Mongolian capital you will be met by your English-speaking guide and personal driver. You will travel into the city centre, check in to your hotel and rest after your long journey. In the evening you will enjoy a traditional Mongolian meal.
Day 2 – Fly to Murun city in Khuvsgul Province
In the morning your guide and driver will take you to the airport once again and you will board a domestic flight to Murun city in the north of Mongolia. The flight takes around 2 hours and upon arrival at the regional airport you will be met by a new guide and driver. You will drive much of the way into Taiga as you travel to reach the best fishing spots in Mongolia and will camp out overnight.
Day 3 – Tsaatan Lodge
After a long drive through spectacular countryside you arrive at the Tsaatan lodge. This ger camp is built on a spur of land jutting out into a deep river on 2 sides and is staffed and run entirely by local nomads. The staff will have opened the buildings and heated your gers for your arrival and you will enjoy a relaxing afternoon and evening under the expansive Siberian sky. If the weather is good then your guide will take you for a few hours fishing for the elusive Taimen Salmon and if not then you will play games in the rough wood house that forms the heart of this charming camp.
Days 4 & 5 – Sharga River Fishing
On your 4th and 5th days you will travel out from your ger camp early in the morning to the Sharga river where you will fish for salmon (catch and release) or local species of trout which you can cook and eat there and then or save for later. The Sharga river winds its way across the plains of the Taiga region and is alternatively fast running and narrow or lazy and deep. Each day your expert guide will recommend the best places for fishing along the river depending on weather conditions, time of year and just gut feeling. Although we cannot guarantee a good catch, we can help you to maximise your chances! In the evenings you return to your ger camp to rest up.
Days 6, 7, 8 & 9 – Sheshged and Tenges River
After breakfast on day 6 you drive further into the wilderness towards the Sheshged and Tenges rivers. These rivers are much less accessible than the Sharga so you will be spending the next 4 nights camping at a different location each night as your guide selects the most likely locations for a good catch in this mountainous and difficult region. Each night you will hopefully be cooking your catch but if not then your guides will prepare a traditional Mongolian meal for you over a camp fire.
Days 10 & 11 - Sharga Tsaatan lodge
On days 10 and 11 your group will return to the Sharga river where you will fish once again, staying in a more southern lodge.
Day 12 - Return to Murun
In the morning you will pack up your gear, eat a hearty breakfast and make the long drive back across rough countryside to Murun city where you will relax in a comfortable city centre hotel before your return flight the following day.
Day 13 - Fly back to UB
Leaving the hotel in the late morning you return to Ulaanbaatar via a 2 hour domestic flight. At Ulaanbaatar airport you will be met by your guide and driver, travel to your hotel and then enjoy a short city tour before supper in a city restaurant.
Day 14 - Depart
Your guide and driver will take you to the airport or train station and wish you well on your departure and future travels!
