As part of the public movement to plant trees in Mongolia, on the 5th of August, staff of the “Secret of Ongi” tourist camp, which is located in Saikhan-Ovoo soum, Dundgobi province, planted 100 sapling trees of almond, elm, oleaster and maple. The day was marked as special because, whilst we were planting trees, the ceremony of the reincarnation of Damtsagdorj Bari, abbot of a lamasery, took place in the nearby Ongi temple. 9 year old Munkhsukh from Tsogtsetsii soum, Umnogobi province was selected as the reincarnation of Damtsagdorj Bari.
The abbot Damtsagdorj Bari was born in Ulaanhoshuu, Saikhan-Ovoo soum near Ongi river in 1781. The monastery he built had 17 temples, around 10 lamastery properties and 200 to 300 lamas used to study there. Damtsagdorj Bari wrote 22 books in Tibetan and he was one of only 2 people who wrote more than 20 books in Khalkh at that time. We believe that the almond trees we planted on the day of the 230th anniversary of this talented and enlightened person will flower soon, decorating the Gobi desert and pleasing travelers.
