Day 1 Nomad stay and Noyon valley
You will be taken on the short journey north to the Mongolian Secret History Travel complex where you will spend the night. As you are arriving in the morning we will organize a full day tour of the area taking in stunning scenery, a visit to a local nomadic family and a short hike to a sacred shaman site where you will be able to participate in a simple ritual to bring you luck on the rest of your journey. We will also take a trip to Purevbat Llama’s temple near the camp which is a stunning example of avant-garde Buddhist architecture and landscaping and completely unique. We recommend staying overnight at the Mongolian Secret History Complex but, if you prefer, then we are happy to arrange for you to spend the night with a local nomadic family who will be delighted that you chose to stay with them and will provide you with a unique and unforgettable experience on your first night in our beautiful country.
Day 2 Khustai National Park and Przewalski’s Horse (3 hours drive on good roads)
On day 2 you will travel to the Khustai Range National Park in the heart of a vast nature reservation. The park has birch forests perched atop of the mountain range and 450 different plant types as well as many wild animals such as the critically endangered Przewalski’s horse, wild boars, otters, deer, and wild goats. Lunch is at the Khustai National Park with horse trekking to follow. Dinner and overnight accommodation at a local ger camp.
Day 3 Terelj Gorkhi National Park (2 hours drive on good roads)
The following morning you will journey to Terelj national park to the East of Ulaanbaatar. This park was once a meeting place for Chingis Khaan’s forces when they returned from their campaigns and empire building. To reach the park you will drive across the river Tuul and enter a landscape of enormous rocky cliffs, lush river valleys and dark green pine forests. This is one of the most striking areas of Mongolia and is an enormously popular location for hiking, horse riding or, for the more adventurous traveller, rock climbing and caving. Dinner and overnight stay in a ger camp.
Day 4 Ulaanbaatar City Tour (1 1⁄2 hour drive on good roads)
On your final full day, you will return to Ulaanbaatar. After lunch and once you have checked into your hotel your guide will take you for a full tour of Ulaanbaatar. This will include Sukhbaatar Square, the National Historical Museum, The Zanabazar art museum and the 976 modern art gallery for a glimpse of how Mongolian art has evolved since the installation of democracy. Additional highlights include Gandan Monastery and the Mongolian artist’s exhibition hall if time allows. In the evening you will attend a traditional art concert in the national theatre. There will also be a chance for souvenir and cashmere shopping. Dinner and overnight stay in a city hotel
