Winter Horse Trekking

Our Company works closely with a family of traditional horse trainers to the north of the capital city Ulaanbaatar to provide a beautiful horse (and camel) trekking experience year round.

This trip uses the Mongolian secret History Hotel and camp as a base to explore the Mongolian winter landscape on horse and camel back.


Day 1 – You will be met at 10am in Ulaanbaatar city at a location of your choice by a professional driver and one of our English speaking guides who will take you on the 2 hour journey into the snowy north in a comfortable 4*4 vehicle. Your destination is the award wining Mongolian Secret History Hotel where you will be spending the next 4 nights. After settling in and unpacking you will head out with your guide to meet a local family of horse trainers and herders where you will learn a little about Mongolian life and, if necessary, how to ride a horse.

In the evening you will return to the camp for supper and relaxation.

Day 2 – In the morning after breakfast you head out for a full day of trekking across the frozen hilly landscape. Lunch is take n with a family of nomads along your circular route and you should be back at the camp no later than 4 pm to ensure that you do not suffer too much from the cold.

Day 3 – Today you will be riding camels in the snow! The morning is spent learning to ride these majestic beasts followed by an afternoon of riding before heading back to the camp.

Day 4 – Aglag Buteeliin Khiid is a temple about a 10 minute drive to the south of the camp hotel. The Temple was founded by Buddhist Artist Purevbat Llama who uses the temple to showcase his avant-garde artwork. There is a hiking trail around the temple that covers the surrounding mountainside and forests taking you through several caves. You will eat a picnic lunch and return to the camp for a final night in the countryside.

Day 5 – On your final day you will return to the city after breakfast with your driver and guide where you will be dropped off at a location of your choice.
